Based off the series written by Jeff Kinney and the fourth film in sequence, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul hits the theatres this May 19. The Long Haul is directed by David Bowers, featuring a brand new cast with Jason Drucker as Greg, Alicia Silverstone as Susan and Tom Everrett Scott as Frank.
The plot surrounds the adventures and mischiefs of the Heffley family as Greg detracts their road trip to attend Meemaw’s 90th birthday party in order a video game convention. The last film in the series, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days released back in 2012 was received fairly well by audience and critics.
The comedy series is expected to attract a family audience and will compete with horror-thriller Alien: Covenant, drama-romance Everything, Everything and two other dramas, The Commune and Wakefield.
Although most of the other films are of significantly varied genre, The Long Haul may lose some audience to the family-fantasy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 which was released on May 5 and continues to attract positive reviews.
